Circulatory System
Its purpose
• The purpose of our circulatory system is to
transport nutrients and oxygen and wastes
throughout the body or out of the body.
• The main pump is the heart and several
valves (flexible flaps) increase pressure.
They open when blood pushes through them
and close to prevent backward flow. This is a
closed system as it flows through a series of
tubes and not openly through the body

• 4 chambers, 2 atria and 2 ventricles
• The blood enters the heart
deoxygenated (without oxygen) and is
pumped to the lungs to pick up oxygen
and get rid of CO2
• This pathway goes from the right atria to
right ventricle through the pulmonary
artery to the lungs

• Then it goes back to the heart into the
left atrium and left ventricle where it is
pumped to the rest of the body through
the aorta (a huge artery)
• Some blood stays with the heart as it is
an organ that needs blood as well.

Capillaries
• Arteries and veins are larger tubes. Their
walls are too think for gas exchange to occur
so the tubes get progressively smaller until
they are capillaries where the walls are so
thin that gas molecules can cross easily into
the cell or out of the cells.
• The main purpose of capillaries is to bring
blood closer to the cells and to assist with the
transport of oxygen and waste CO2
Heart Disease
• Blockages based on buildup of wastes
in arteries can cause server stress on
your heart. Your heart can develop
holes or faulty valves
• All these have serious effects on your
bodies ability to get oxygenated blood to
all its cells
Respiratory System
• When you breath your muscles contract and
your rub cage moves up causing diaphragm
goes down causing negative pressure. This
sucks air into the lungs.
• Mucus coats your passages from your nose
to your lungs to prevent foreign bodies and to
keep the area moist
• Air passes through your nasal passage,
pharynx, trachea, then to the bronchi, to
bronchioles until eventually it goes to tiny
sacs called alveoli.
• The hemoglobin they contain causes
them to pick up oxygen. Oxygenated
blood travels throughout the body based
on the interaction between alveoli and
the capillaries where fgas exchange
occurs.
