I ww1,propaganda was used on a large scale to try to
encourage young men to join the army and fight in the
war.The British army was running short on men and
propaganda posters and speech’s helped recruit
1000’s.The posters often included war slogans and often
tried to make the reader feel guilty by using phrases
like:What are you doing to save your country?Or :Will
you stand there and just watch Britain's women and
children die?A prominent figure in this campaign was a
man called Lord Kitchener

WW1 started on the 28th of July 1914 after an Austrian
man and his wife were killed by a Serbian in Sarajevo ,a
Austro-Hungarian province.This angered Austria,who
announced war.Serbia did not apologise,and they too
got ready to fight.So both sides faced war.But Austria
had a treaty with Germany and Serbia had a treaty with
Russia.So both of them got pulled into the fight.But it
didn’t end there.Russia had a treaty with France and the
British meaning soon most of Europe and much of the
world were at war.

Weapons used in WW1 were often quite brutal.One of the
most brutal,would definitely be gas.2 of the most
commonly used forms of gas were:chlorine and mustard
gas.Chlorine gas caused a burning sensation and chest
pain.Death was quick,but painful.Also used was mustard
gas,a silent colourless killer.The gas took 12 hours to
take effect and symptoms included: blistering skin,
vomiting, sore eyes, internal and external bleeding.
Death could take up to 5 weeks.Also used were machine
guns,bolt action rifles,torpedoes and planes.
