Americas Roles in the Beginning
of World War One
The United States Wanted to Stay
Neutral but…
1914– Americans did not want to join the
War because the War did not threaten
American Life or American property.
Followed the War Closely…
Many Americans were still closely tied to
Europe, because of immigration, and they
worried about their Homeland.
And picked Favorites
Started leaning towards the Triple Entente
Common Ancestry with Britain
Hate for Germans attacking civilians,
villages, cathedrals, libraries, and hospitals
(both sides did this—propaganda)
Biggest Reason the U.S Supported
The Triple Entente…
Strong Economic Ties helped
America pick sides.
Britain, France, and Russia traded with the
U.S. more than the Central Powers
America started sending war supplies and
the Triple Entente could not get enough
Whoa!! Slow Down
so much demand the U.S. labor force could
not keep up and huge labor shortage
throughout the U.S.
