Learning Target: Students can develop strategies to
study what they learn efficiently outside of class.

U.S. History note section of your binder:

1. List the actions you take inside of
school to prepare to study for an
upcoming quiz or test. Describe in a
step by step format the actions you
take when you study for a test
outside of class (at home, at the
library, etc).

notes. By being able to
restate what you learned
in your own words, you
are forcing yourself to
process what was taught
in your mind.

What type of learner are you?

According to some experts, there are three types of learners: visual, auditory,
and kinesthetic. (Others feel there are more types and those will be explained
in a later slide in this presentation.
Number your paper from 1 to 18 and answer the following questionnaire in your
binder. Each question has three options. If you agree, write the number you
agree with the most. For example:

At the end, we will find out if you are a visual, auditory, or kinesthetic learner.
Once you find out your results, write what you are under #18.

According to the article “Discover Your Learning Style” found at
http://www.educationcorner.com/learning-styles.html there are
various types of learners:
• Visual (spacial) – learning through imagery and spacial
understanding
• Aural (auditory) – learning through listening, sound, and
music
• Verbal (linguistic) – learning through speech and writing
• Physical (kinesthetic) – learning through hands-on, tactile
interaction
• Logical (mathematical) – learning through logic, reasoning
and systems
• Social (interpersonal) – preference for learning in groups or
working with other people
• Solitary (intrapersonal) – preference for learning alone via
self-study
Another good way to study is to have a
study buddy. A study buddy is a classmate
(not necessarily a friend) a person you can
turn to and review class material with. You
can quiz each other to make sure that you
are prepared for quizzes and test.
It is good to have a way to contact your
study buddy outside of class (phone
number/e-mail address). If you are studying
at home and you didn’t understand
something, you can ask your study buddy
what they understood from class.
At this time, make a study buddy in this
class.
