Muscular System
• The muscular system: A group of tissues that
help the body move
• There are over 650 muscles
• Muscles all work the same way to produce
movement at a joint:
1. Contract: shorten
2. Extend: lengthen
Muscle injury: Strain, cramp, tendinitis, Muscular
dystrophpy
Types of Muscles
1. Smooth Muscles: Found in organs in the body
such as stomach & intestines
2. Skeletal Muscles: Attach to bones and make
up to 40% of body ( Bicep & Tricep)
3. Cardiac Muscle: Only found in heart,
constantly contracts and relaxes, controlled
by brain

• Tendons help hold muscles to bones
• Myocardium is the name of the cardiac
muscles
• Muscles can move * Voluntary or Involuntary
• Skeletal Muscles are called striated because
muscle fibers look striped
• Strongest muscle found in face called :
massester

A person’s body has about 60,000
miles of blood vessels
• The average person has about 9-10
pints of blood in their body.
• The Heart pumps about 2,000
gallons of blood daily.
• It takes about 23 seconds for the
heart to circulate blood
throughout the body.
• About 3MILLION NEW red bold
cells are made in the bone marrow
• There are 4 main blood types: A B
AB and O
• Blood contains RH factor, so blood
is RH positive (+) or RH Negative(-)
• Blood types must match before
getting blood
