Muscles
Types of muscle
Skeletal muscle
– Attached to your bones and
causes you to move.
–Controlled by conscious thought.
–Can become fatigued.
Cardiac muscle
–Found only in the heart.
–Does not tire, that is why your
heart can keep beating your whole
life.
–Not controlled by conscious
thought.
Smooth Muscle
–Is the muscle which lines your
digestive tract, blood vessels and
lungs.
–Works automatically and constantly
to keep you alive.
More about Skeletal Muscle
It is a type of striated muscle.
Made up of two types of fibres
–fast twitch for short/quick
movement
–slow twitch for longer periods of
activity
Tendons attach muscles to bones.
Muscles work in pairs to move limbs.
–Flexor muscles cause joints to
bend
–Extensor muscles cause joints to
straighten.
Even the most fit person will still
accumulate lactic acid in their
muscles during a long period of
activity.
