Spelling
 A master list with spelling words for 4-5 weeks is sent
home for review and study.
 Each Monday, students complete a spelling paper with
the week’s words. They can study from this list, too.
 The test is the last day of the school week. No pre-test.
Sentences will also be given.
Reading Homework
 Each Tuesday, your child will bring home the reading
text book so that they can read the story to you at
home.
 They will also bring home the vocabulary notebook.
They must study the words, and HAVE YOU SIGN
THE NOTEBOOK.
 They will have to pull a card if the notebook is not
signed
Math Homework
 Many nights your student
will have math homework.
Please check over your
child’s work.
 The work must be returned
the next morning. If it is
not, they will have to stay in
from recess to do the work.
Math Facts
 Students need to study math facts at home as well as
school.
 You may want to purchase fact cards to practice at
home.
 Starting in December, we will learn multiplication
facts.
 An award trip will take place in the spring.
Math Masters
 To be a Math Master, students must pass 100 addition
facts in 5 minutes, then 100 subtraction facts in 5
minutes, then 100 multiplication facts in 5 minutes.
 To become a Star Math Master, each one must be
passed in 4 minutes, etc.
Dismissal
 Students will go home
according to the
transportation form
you filled out at the
beginning of school
 If they are to go home
another way, a note
must come to school
with the child, or call
the school
Attendance
 Absences:
Students are
required by law to be in
school unless there is an
illness, doctor-dental
appt. or an emergency.
 3 unexcused absences per
semester, the parent is notified
by certified mail
 5 unexcused absences per
semester, the parent is notified
by certified mail
 10 unexcused absences
per semester will be
reported to the District
Attorney
Tardies
 It is important your child
is here on time every day.
 Instruction time is
imperative and excessive
tardiness can make it
difficult for your child.
 The student is tardy if
he/ she is not in class
by 8:05 when the tardy
bell rings.
 3 tardies per semester
will be counted as one
day unexcused absence
Testing
 Third grade is the first year that the state-required
achievement test is given.
 Attendance is very important so that students gain all
the skills and practice they need for that test.
 The test is usually given in April.
 More information will be given after the first of the
year.
