data request

Test exchange of emission data Aims
• Collate relevant emissions data for State of
Environment (SoE) assessement of Europe’s
water.
• In doing so, address a key part of the
DPSIR framework
• Develop indicators to inform policy

Test exchange of emission data
• Emissions Reporting Sheet established –
Version 8
• Based on this, for the test data exchange, a
simplified Excel spreadsheet was created,
capturing the key parts of the Reporting
Sheet
• Test data so far – one aim of the workshop is
to agree and finalise what should be
reported

Requested Data
Spatial Scale/Aggregation
• Total emission loads from significant point
and diffuse sources at River Basin District
level.
• If more detailed information is available at
sub-unit (river basin) or water body level this
information is appreciated.
• Area of RBD or sub-unit was requested – to
calculate specific emission loads e.g.
kg/ha/year

Requested data
Pollutant Types
● Reporting Sheet refers to;
• Nutrients and Organics – Total N, Total
P, BOD, TOC, COD
• Metals and Hazardous substances
• The test data Excel sheet aimed for
flexibility, requesting nutrients,
Organics, Metals – Cu, Zi, Cd, Ni, Pb, Hg
and three optional hazardous
substances

Requested data
Aggregation by source/sector categories
● Both Point and Diffuse Sources
• Diffuse emissions – agriculture, atmospheric
deposition, un-connected dwellings, urban
diffuse, other diffuse (forestry, aquaculture
etc.), background, total diffuse
• Aim for flexibility with respect to Diffuse
sources

Requested data
• Point sources – UWWTD – separated
according to population equivalent,
and total.
• Industry IPPC (or not)
• Other point sources (including
contaminated sites, mining etc.)
• Total point source emissions –
aggregated across all sectors

Requested data
● Where sector based emissions are
not available, it was requested that
total emissions (e.g. t/year) were
provided at the river mouth/river
basin outlet.
● Requested as total riverine load
per pollutant

Requested data
Temporal aggregation of data:
• Annual total of loads of all pollutants
 Nutrients and Organics – tonnes per year
 Metals and Hazardous – kg per year
• Time period
 For as many years as possible

Requested data
Additional information:
• Respondent details
• Emissions to freshwater only or freshwater and
•
coastal?
Other relevant information - such as tables and
diagrams with emissions data, information
describing the method used to calculate
emissions or data describing the relative
contribution of different sectors (i.e. source
apportionment) information

Requested data
Additional information:
• Reporting Sheet refers to the Physical
Characteristics of each assessment unit
• Other information, e.g. permanent
population, transient population (tourists)
• Not requested in the Excel sheet, but
useful information for future reporting
