Revolution began, American
colonists were fighting to
protect their rights.
Why did the Civil War
begin?

The Civil War began because the Southerners
insisted that they had the right to secede from the
Union.
The Northerners disagreed with this and thought
that it was wrong for some states to leave the
Union.
The Civil War was fought between 1861 and 1865,
but in 1863, another reason for fighting came to
the surface…...
The Northerners were also fighting to end slavery.
