Life in the Colonies



In the Colonies church, if you fall asleep
you would get hit in the head with a stick.
Most people didn’t own slaves, they
owned Indentured Servants.
Boston is the capital and still is.



In the winter windows were covered with
cloth or wood because glass was too
expensive.
Harved university was founded in
Massachusetts in 1636.
Farmers had to dig rocks before you could
farm.
Work and Trade




Rum was traded for slaves in Africa.
Women spun plants called flax into linen
to make clothes.
Men would clear forest for planting crops
and for constructing homes.
Farmers would have to dig large rocks out
of the soil before farming.



Farmers grew fruits and vegetables, and
raised cattle to feed their family.
Farming was difficult in the area.
Sometimes they will trade their crops for
other goods.
Colony Exports



Triangular trade routes are established in
the 1700s.
They trade rum for slaves.
Massachusetts exports traded goods for
things they need or want.
Religion in the colony




Catholics controlled its own government.
Most people were puritans.

They live by strict rules of the church.
Everyone went to church on Sundays.
You had to come to church or there
would be punishments.





American Indians for thousands of years.
The pilgrims had a hard time getting to
America.
