He is an Italian pop tenor and
crossover artist. Bocelli was
born on 22th September 1958
in Lajatico, Tuscany, Italy,
and grew up on the family
farm. It was evident at birth
that he had problems with his
sight, and after visits to
many doctors Bocelli was
diagnosed with congenital
glaucoma. In 1970, at the
age of 12, he completely lost
his sight after an accident
during a soccer game. As a
young boy, Bocelli showed a
great passion for music. At
the age of six he started
piano lessons, and many other
instruments.
As winner of the 1994 Newcomers
section at the Sanremo Festival,
he was invited to return the
following year, entering the main
competition with "Con te partirò"
and finishing in fourth place.
Two World Music Awards, one in
the category "Best Italian
Singer“.
On March 2, 2010, he was
honoured with a star on the
Hollywood Walk of Fame.
He is the most important
Italian singer, and he is very
known in all over the world.
