L'art de la Renaissance
Renaissance Spreads from Italy
• France
– In 1494, France invaded Italy. The French Kings were
fascinated by Italian architecture, art, and fashion.
– In the early 1500’s, King François I arranged for Italian artists
to work for him in France. He was the first person outside of
Italy to collect Italian art and statues. François also built the
Louvre, a palace on the banks of the Seine River in Paris.
– He also brought Leonardo da Vinci to France as his “Painter,
Engineer, and King’s Architect.” He encouraged French
writers to copy the writing style of the Italian writers.
