SEO Essentials
What is SEO?
• The process of improving the visibility of a
website or a webpage in search engines
o
Uses “organic” (unpaid) methods
Keyword Research
• Keyword and competitive research analysis
We take the keywords you think are important and
look at the actual traffic per keyword
o For example:
o
More people search “advertising agencies” than
“advertising agency”
They are looking for options rather than just one agency
Ranking Report
• Before we touch your website we run reports for
Google, Yahoo, and Bing to use as a control
• After we work on optimizing your site we submit
sitemaps to Google so it can crawl the site and
run new reports
• We then:
o
o
Run Reports
Review analytics
Ranking Reports Con’t
• When the reports come back good we begin
inbound link building
o
We use proprietary gray hat SEO automated
software
This software publishes quality content (not spam) to
thousands of blogs, forms, directories, article sites, PR
sites, and other web properties pointing back to your site.
This mimics viral popularity as it pertains to Google’s
keywords
Introduces the content slowly so that it doesn’t shock
search engines
Ranking Reports Con’t
• We do either Biweekly, Monthly, or Quarterly
depending on your package
• This gives us a reactive and proactive approach
to improve rankings and protect the ones you
already have
World Wide Web
• All websites are connected, therefore they are called
the world wide web
• “Spiders” are sent out by search engines
o Also called web crawlers, bots, et cetera
o They scan your website for keywords
• There are only two ways for spiders to enter your
webpage:
The First Way:
Is through a little invisible door in the upper left
hand corner of your webpage
The Second Way:
Is through text based links on other pages.
When a spider comes across a text based link,
it clones itself and sends that clone through the
link to the other page. To accomplish this
successfully you need to create search friendly
navigation and URL’s
Spiders
• Cannot see visuals (images/flash)
o
They only see html
• They read this text they same way you and I do:
o
o
Left to right
Top to bottom
Meta Page
Title
This is the first
text spiders
read when they
enter a
website. This
becomes the
headline of the
results on the
Search Engine
Results page.
Meta
Description
This is the
second thing
the spider
sees. It is not
seen by
people, but it
does become
the body of the
results on the
search engine
results page.
Headline
This is the third
thing the spider
sees. This is
the text on the
webpage that is
written in H1.
The spider then
moves on to
the content of
the website.
Spiders Con’t
• As the spider scans the page it looks for:
o
o
Keyword frequency
Other attributes that tell the search engine the page
is important
Bold
Italics
Underlining
Bullets
• It then sends info back to the search engine
telling it what the page is about
