87 perish in
desert
Many died of dehydration after their
vehicles broke down in the Sahara
desert in Niger. Nearly all of the 87
people were women and children. The
vehicles were trying to get to Algeria.
Many of the bodies were severely
decomposed and appeared to have
been partially eaten by animals. It
appears they were trying to reach
Algeria in hopes of finding a better life
for themselves because of the extreme
poverty and economic hardships in
Niger.

Facebook shares soared 15% Wednesday on blowout quarterly results -but the stock lost steam after the company admitted young teens are
losing interest in the site. "We did see a decrease in [teenage] daily users
[during the quarter], especially younger teens," Facebook chief financial
officer David Ebersman said Wednesday, during the company's thirdquarter earnings conference call with analysts. He said Facebook usage
among overall U.S. teens was "stable," however. Previously, Facebook had
defended itself against multiple recent studies and articles proposing that
teens don't find Facebook cool anymore. Last quarter, CEO Mark
Zuckerberg said it "just isn't true" that the company has a problem with
the teen market. Facebook's mobile business came in very strong though.
Mobile ads now account for 49% of all Facebook ad revenue.

Investigators have shut down a newly-completed, "highly sophisticated"
drug tunnel running under the border between San Diego and Tijuana,
Mexico. Like a 600-yard tunnel discovered along the border in November
2010, this tunnel had lighting and a rail system. Drug cartels on the border
have become so powerful and sophisticated in recent years that many
Mexican communities and areas along the border are patches of
uncontrollable violence.
