Established in 1949 under Statistics
Ordinance and was known as Bureau of
Statistics
Statistics Act 1965 (Revised 1989)
• The principal legislation determining the functions and
responsibilities of the DOSM
• Currently undertaking the revision of the Act
Functions
• Main agency to collect, interpret, and disseminate
official statistics for the purpose of policy making and
national planning
