Dissemination and Exploitation
Horizon 2020
Communication Dissemination, Exploitation
Three distinct activities ….
…two to be supported by the Common Support Centre
.
WHAT - Defining dissemination and exploitation
for EU funded research
• Dissemination of EU funded research:
– Systematically spreading and widely circulating the results
of EU funded research
• Exploitation of EU funded research:
– Ensuring that the results of EU funded research are used
and benefited from (for commercial and non-commercial
purpose)
=> Dissemination and exploitation are linked to the extent that
dissemination can give rise to exploitation

Bridging the "Dissemination Gap"
Currently, dissemination is done on project basis:
(i) by informing about participation in projects (data and
statistics in CORDA, data on Open Data Portal / CORDIS);
(ii) by publishing project summaries (on CORDIS, by thematic
services);
(iii) by publishing synopses of project clusters in ad-hoc
reports/ in thematic publications (by thematic services, also
in CORDIS publications);
(iv) by popularising project outcomes (success stories on
EUROPA, in CORDIS publications);

Operationalizing the dissemination of EU funded research
• Guiding concept:
In function of (policy) needs, defined by stakeholders,
aggregate and analyse results of projects across the
Framework Programmes:
DGs prepare "dissemination packages" of results of EUprojects

To be delivered either by CSC or by thematic services (in DGs) using "end users
queries" via text mining, semantic analysis and visual analytics tools (e.g. SAS Text
Analytics Modules)
To be delivered to Policy Staff to inform (i) the design of future policies (including
of EC research family) and (ii) DG funding activities (future WPs, FPs, etc.)
To be delivered on "almost real time"
To include reference to "open research data" >> DG CNECT Pilot-Action for H2020

– Leadership in enabling and industrial technologies – Information and Communication
Technologies
– Societal Challenge: Secure, Clean and Efficient Energy – part Smart cities and
communities
– Societal Challenge: Climate Action, Environment, Resource Efficiency and Raw materials
– except raw materials
– Societal Challenge: Europe in a changing world – inclusive, innovative and reflective
