Binomial Naming System
Genus
• Is a group of species that are closely related
but do not interbreed.
Species
• Species: is a group of individuals that look
alike and they live in the same habitat and can
breed together.
• Each species is given two names: the first
name is the Genus and the second names is
the trivial name that applies to one species
within the genus.
Things to remember
• Genus should always be capitalized
• Species will never be capitalized
• Both should be in italics
