Octoberfest Vs Dionysia
Octoberfest
 Oktoberfest is a 16-18 day festival held each
year in Munich, Bavaria, Germany, running
from late September to the first weekend in
October. It is one of the most famous events
in Germany and the world's largest
celebrations, with more than 5 million people
attending every year. The Oktoberfest is an
important part of Bavarian culture.
 Since then, this event is celebrated every year. The
festival is now 17 days when the first Sunday is
October 2 and 18 days when it is October 1. In 2010,
the festival lasts until the first Monday in October, to
mark the 200-year anniversary of the event. It is
located very central on the Thereisienwiese, a huge,
flat area near important Bavarian statues.
 The original "Oktoberfest" occurred in
Munich, on October 12, 1810. Crown Prince
Ludwig and Princess Theresee of SaxeHildburghausen organized a great horse race
to celebrate their marriage. The event was so
successful that it was decided to renew it in
1811.
Nowadays, what are they doing
during the Oktoberfest?

Visitors eat huge amounts of traditional food such

dumplings), Kasspatnz (cheese noodles), Reiberdatschi (potato
pancakes), Sauerkraut or Blaukraut (red cabbage) along with such
Bavarian delicacies as Obatzda (a spiced cheese-butter spread)

which are the

 The passion plays exist since 1634, which means for
more than 380 years. When at that time a epidemic
drew to a close, the Oberammergauer citizen sworn
to enact the passion of Christ every ten years. Today
the passion plays are world famous and attract every
time more than 500,000 spectators. More than 2000
Oberammergauer citizen play a part in the spectacle
which lasts almost one day.

 At least four matches will take place during
the time of Octoberfest in Munich. Teams like
FC Bayern München will play against. FC
Köln and the FSV Mainz 05. The TSV 1860
will play against Erzgebirge Aue and FC
Union Bayern. There are probably also some
Champions league and DFB-Cup-Matche
Dionysia
 The Dionysia was a large festival in ancient
Athens in honor of the god Dionysus, the
central event of which was the performance
of tragedies and comedies. It was the
second-most important festival after the
Panathenaia. The Dionysia actually
comprised two related festivals, the Rural
Dionysia and the City Dionysia, which took
place in different parts of the year. They were
also an essential part of the Dionysian
Mysteries.
 The central event was the pompe, in
which men that were called phalloi were
carried by phallophoroi.There were also
young girls carrying baskets,long loaves
of bread, jars of water and wine.
 After the pompe, there were contests of dancing and
singing. Some festivals may have included dramatic
performances, possibly of the tragedies and
comedies that had been produced at the City
Dionysia the previous year. This was more common
in the larger towns such as Piraeus and Eleusis.
The comic playwright Aristophanes parodied the Rural Dionysia in
his play The Acharnians.
 Because the various towns in Attica held their
festivals on different days, it was possible for
spectators to visit more than one festival per
season. It was also an opportunity for
Athenian citizens to travel outside the city if
they did not have the opportunity to do so
during the rest of the year. This also allowed
travelling companies of actors to perform in
more than one town during the period of the
festival.
 Strangely, “Dionysia” are still held in the
whole Greece and are dedicated to the god
Dionysus.
 Nowadays, this event lasts between 3 and 5
days but the try to celebrate it like then so
music, dance and songs are necessary!
Thank you for watching !!..
