An introductory Family and Consumer Science course
allowing students to explore basic information in the
areas of foods & nutrition, sewing technology, and
personal relationships. Students will learn basic
cooking techniques and fabric construction skill within
a lab setting. Students will also focus on interpersonal
skills relating to friends, family members and child
care.

Creative Foods HE 130

This class develops skill and knowledge in
kitchen management and food preparation.
Healthy food choices and nutrition are
emphasized in each unit.
Creative Foods: quick breads (muffins, biscuits),
international foods (Italian & French), eggs, poultry
(chicken), fruits, cookies and pies.
Exploring Foods
7/8 grade
HE 140

This class develops skill and knowledge in
kitchen management and food preparation.
Healthy food choices and nutrition are
emphasized in each unit.
Exploring Foods: Yeast breads (pretzels, pizza), cheese and
milk, meats, grains (pasta, rice) vegetables, international
foods (Asian & Mexican), and cakes.
FACS: Exploring and Creative Foods

FACS: Sewing I and II
Sewing I
is designed to give students an opportunity to learn sewing skills,
pattern and fabric selection, and basic construction techniques while
completing projects. Students tie dye, practice designing garments,
and sew several projects such as pin cushions, lanyards, pencil cases,
drawstring backpacks, pillows, pillow cases, pajama pants, and much
more!
Sewing II
is an independent study class during which you get to choose and
sew 3 or 4 projects-and you get to pick whatever you want!

FACS Class Summary
As a 7th or 8th grade student,
you may take as many of the
Family & Consumer Science classes as you can fit
into your schedule.
All classes focus on the process skills of
problem solving, thinking, management, leadership
and communication.
