point of the war.
Life On The Home Front
 With many of the Men away at war, the women
were left to take over the choirs of running the
plantations, farms, and factory work.
•
Many families were split in their support,
often brothers were on different sides of the
war, either North or South.
 Both North and South experienced shortages of
goods and food
Final Resolution
► The
war ended on April 18, 1865, with the
surrender of the Confederate army. 617,000
Americans had died in the war, and
thousands had been injured. The southern
landscape was devastated.
Major Effects Of The
War
► The
Civil War tore families apart from each other.
Men, as well as boys, were forced to fight to
defend their side. Many families were separated
because of their beliefs on slavery. Loved ones
were killed.
► After the war, slavery was abolished, and several
families were reunited. Many buildings and homes
were rebuilt and African Americans were accepted
in America.
