Propaganda in Nazi Germany
Dehumanization
 The act of depriving a person or
group of people of human qualities,
personality, or spirit
Nationalism
a feeling of loyalty and pride in one’s
country, often with the belief that it is
better and more important than other
countries
Segregation
the separation or isolation of a race, class, or
ethnic group by enforced or voluntary
residence in a restricted area, by barriers to
social intercourse, by separate educational
facilities, or by other discriminatory means
Name-Calling
is an attack on a person
instead of an issue.
Bandwagon
tries to persuade the reader
to do, think or buy something
because it is popular or
because “everyone” is doing
it.
Red Herring
is an attempt to distract
the reader with details not
relevant to the argument.
Emotional Appeal
tries to persuade the
reader by using words
that appeal to the reader’s
emotions instead of to
logic or reason.
Testimonial
attempts to persuade the
reader by using a famous
person to endorse a
product or idea (for
instance, the celebrity
endorsement).
Repetition
attempts to persuade
the reader by repeating
a message over and over
again.
Sweeping Generalization (stereotyping)
makes an
oversimplified
statement about a
group based on limited
information.
Circular Argument
states a conclusion
as part of the proof of
the argument.
Appeal to numbers, facts, or statistics
attempts to persuade
the reader by showing
how many people think
something is true.
Target Marketing
 The act of marketing and
advertising to a specific
demographic (age, race, nationality,
gender, etc.) of consumers
Kristallnacht
Known as “the night of broken glass”. On
this night, over 1600 Jewish shops,
synagogues, and homes were attacked
and looted, and over 30,000 Jewish men
were sent to concentration camps. This
officially marked the beginning of the
Holocaust.
The Nuremberg Laws
Laws passed in 1935 that institutionalized
many of the racial theories prevalent in Nazi
ideology. The laws excluded German Jews
from Reich citizenship and prohibited them
from marrying or having sexual relations with
persons of "German or related blood."
Joseph Goebbels
 The Nazi minister of propaganda
during Hitler’s regime. He is
responsible for planning and executing
marketing techniques that demonized
the Jewish people in the eyes of the
Nazi German populace.
Censorship
the practice of limiting access to information,
ideas or books in order to prevent knowledge
or freedom of thought.
Scapegoat
A person or group that is made to
bear blame for others
