Transcript Historical sources - St Flannan's College History

Historians get their information from two different
kinds of sources: primary and secondary. Primary
sources are first hand sources; secondary sources are
second-hand sources.
Primary sources
 A document which was written or created during the
time under study.
Interviews
Diaries
Letters
Speeches
Autobiography
Photos
Posters
Paintings
Newspapers (the 1st draft of
history)
Magazines
Artefacts (man made objects found
by archaeologists)
Secondary Sources
 A secondary source of information is one that was
created later by someone who did not experience firsthand or participate in the events or conditions you’re
researching. They are written after the event.
 Your history book is a secondary source as the author
did not live during the Renaissance or during Ancient
Rome.
