SCHEDULING IN A HOSPITAL

Personnel scheduling in hospital isn’t simple
because it has to follow different rules, legislation
and other factors
The prototype for planning and monitoring of
workload was developed on the base of
cooperation between Hospital Golnik and Faculty
of Organizational Sciences (FOV)
The solution is internet solution.

To learn about the Oracle9iAS Portal, SQL and
PL/SQL.
To develop the solution with Oracle9iAS Portal
The solution should support personnel
scheduling in a hospital.

Prototype development model.
Data was gained from:
 documentation
about the existing MS Access
prototype
 documentation from the Golnik hospital
 interviews between developers and users.


Oracle9iAS Portal (Greenwald, 2001):



can be used for development, administration
and configuration of portlets.
Oracle Portal enables publishing of data from
database and other sources in one palace.
There are many different types of components
that can be created with Oracle Portal:

reports, forms, charts, calendars, hierarchies,
menus, lists-of-values, links and others.

The solution should enable:



Views, inserts and updates of data for
personnel, organization units, processes, work
orders.
It also has to include 4 graphical presentations
about past work.
Scheduling work in hospital and outpatients
departments, scheduling turns of duty and
management of absences.

With defined username and password we
have access to the solution.

The home page is composed to three parts:

Schedule maintenance.

TESTING

The testing procedure was focused on
components. Every component was tested after
the development.

Testing revealed that errors were:



a consequence of user’s knowledge limitations
Oracle9iAS Portal limitations
hardware limitation.
CONCLUSION

The solution enables:
Reviewing, inserting, deleting and updating
of data
 Scheduling work and outpatients
departments
 Scheduling turns of duties
 Planning and monitoring of absences.

