Fox Lexicon exercise
• Look up the word for ‘big, much’
• Using the pattern that Sauk words follow, how
would you say “The woman has big eyes?”
• How would you say “I have big eyes?”
Fox Lexicon exercise
• Look up the word ‘eye’ in the lexicon.
• There will be a list of various words that have to
do with a person’s eyes.
• Write down in your notes all of the eye words
that have “nîkwê” in them.
• Remember, that they will look like this in the
dictionary ‘ni.kwe.’
• Write the word in the dot form, then turn that
writing into the Sauk writing and write the
definition beside it.
Remembering Roots
• Is important. If you can remember roots and
what they are used for, it will make it a lot
easier on your brain. Don’t try to remember
full words, it takes that much more space.
