General Information
• The human head had 100,000 hair
follicles
• Hair grows 1 centimeter every month
• 90% of the hair on your head is growing
at one time
• Hair Loss occurs in both men and
women
Causes

Genetic
•
Male-Pattern Baldness (Androgenic alopecia) is caused by
a sex hormone called DHT
•
It is sex linked autosomal dominant
Hormonal
•
Hair can fall out when the thyroid glad is either overactive or
under active
Hair will also fall out during an illness or surgery due to stress
Chemotherapy also causes hair to fall out
3 months after having a baby women tend to loose hair
because of the hormone changes
Hair can also call out because of a fungal infection
Symptoms
• Hair falls out in chucks or the natural hair line
recedes
• Hair may thin in certain spots instead of falling out

Treatment
• There is no treatment for genetic malepattern baldness (Alopecia) or for hormonal
hair loss
• Hair grows very fast so for most other hair
loss (stress, illness, or chemotherapy) it is
only temporary
• Rogaine is used by some men to help hair
grow is any bald spots
• Hair transplants are also used
Cures and Prevention
• There are no cures for hair loss
• There is not really any prevention for
hair loss either other then taking good
care of your hair
