Transcript Cell is like a Restaurant

How is a Cell like a Restaurant?
Cell Wall: Walls of a the Restaurant
• The walls of a restaurant give the building
structure and support just like the cell wall
gives the plant protection and support.
Chloroplasts: Solar Panels in some
“Green” Restaurants
• Chloroplasts use the sunlight to make energy for
the plant by making glucose, like a solar panel
uses energy from the sun for your electricity.
Cell Membrane: Restaurant Door
• The Restaurant door is the way in and out of
the building like the cell membrane is the way
in and out of the cell for only certain
customers.
Cytoplasm: The dining area
• The cytoplasm is the jelly-like material inside the
cell where the organelles are, like the dining
room containing the tables and chairs are where
the people sit.
Nucleus: Chef
• The chef gives directions for the cooks to
make the food, like the nucleus gives
directions in the cell to make proteins.
DNA: Recipe
• The recipe gives instructions for how to make
the dishes in the restaurant, just like DNA
gives instructions in the cell for how to make
proteins.
Protein: Food
• The food in the restaurant is made using the
instructions in the recipe, just like the protein
is made in the cell by using the instructions
given by the DNA in the nucleus.
Mitochondria: Oven
• The oven for the restaurant releases energy to
cook the food, just like the mitochondria
releases the energy for cells to use.
Vacuole: Freezer/Walk- in
• The vacuole is for storing food and mainly
water and is larger for a plant cell since they
cannot get up and get a drink.
How do the parts work to make the
whole cell function smoothly?
