RedIRIS-NOVA Project
• Spanish government project to deploy a national optical
infrastructure:
• 138 MM€ ( EU structural funds + Science and Innovation Ministry
funds )
• National coverage (Canary Islands included )
• RFI process in Oct/Nov 2008
• Competitive Dialogue Tender Process (December 2008 to August
2009)

23 companies: 10 fiber providers, 13 equipment suppliers
• Tender structure:
a) Optical fiber in Peninsula + housing facilities for amplifiers.
b) Optical fiber with/in Canary islands + housing facilities for amplifiers
c) Optical equipment
• Tender launched in August 2009
• Tender Evaluation: end September to end October 2009

• National coverage:
• 42 add/drop points -> 10.475 km of fiber
• Extensions to reach upto 108 add/drop points -> 2.084 km of
fiber




High-resiliency infrastructure:
 15 fiber rings
New G.652-D fiber, deployed for this project.
21 years IRU
Upto 119 ILA sites, already prepared to host equipments.
