What do you know already about cells?
Most cells can be seen with the naked eye
All living things are made of cells.
Plant cells and animal cells are the same.
Humans are made up of trillions of cells.
New cells come from cells that were already
there.
An organism gets bigger because its cells get
bigger.
What is a cell?
A cell is the smallest and most basic
unit of life that can carry out life
functions.
Two types of cells
The Cell Theory
1. All living things are made of one or
more cells.
2. The cell is the basic unit of life.
3. All cells come from pre-existing cells.

Organelles
We and other organisms are made of
organs and tissues that are made of
cells. Each cell, is made up of smaller
parts – called organelles.
An organelle is a structure within a cell
that carries out specific functions to
support the life of the cell.
