Homework Overview O Math: assigned nightly except for assessment days, occasionally on Fridays, due in the morning O Spelling: 1 square on the grid each night, due Fridays O Reading: Completed log with 120 minutes recorded, due Mondays O ABC chart: Signed by a parent due Mondays Missing HW O Incomplete HW: yellow; Students will be asked to finish homework during PM recess O Forgotten or missing HW: yellow; PM recess time to get organized O Messy HW: yellow; students will be asked to redo the homework during PM recess 3rd and 4th grade Math O 3 types of math classes your child will have Regular lesson: Notes, Modeling, Practice 2. Differentiated Instruction Each student will read leveled texts or novels based on their individual Z.P.D or Zone of Proximal Development All Saints Book Club • Read 6 books per trimester; • 4 Fiction books • 1 Non-Fiction book • 1 Fable (3rd Grade) or Greek Mythology book (4th Grade) • Students need to read within their Z.P.D or colored dots (Z.P.D is based on their STAR test) • When a student finishes a book; • • • Complete a book report form Conference with a teacher Take an A.R. test if possible • When a student has met their 6 book goal, they can take as many A.R. tests as they wish. 3rd and 4th grade Language Arts 3rd and 4th graders will focus on grade specific skills to include: O Parts of speech O Sentence structure O Capitalization O Punctuation O *Spelling O *the spelling program is being used by all 1 st-5th grade teachers of spelling O *word lists are comprised of Fry words, grade level appropriate spelling patterns and academic vocabulary 3rd and 4th Grade Writing 3rd and 4th graders will effectively… O write narratives to develop real or imagined experience or events. O write opinion pieces. O write informative/explanatory texts 3rd and 4th Grade Science O Unit 1: Earth and Space Science 3rd: clouds, weather 4th: Earth’s layers, rocks and minerals O Unit 2: Life Science 3rd: plants, animals and growth development 4th: animals and adaptations, ecosystems O Unit 3: Physical Science 3rd: forces and motion, simple machines 4th: electricity, magnetism, sound, waves 3rd and 4th Grade SS and 3rd SS: US history • Civics-Constitution, Declaration of Independence, and other key principals of the U.S. • Economics- Each student will create a business • History-Native Americans and other major events that helped shape the U.S. • Geography-Parts of a map, U.S. regions and the location of the 50 states 4th SS: WA state history 1. Exploring the Pacific Northwest prior to statehood 2. Living in Washington: Its Geography, Resources and the Economy 3.
