Discipline:
3 Rules:
Respect yourself
Respect others
Respect our school
If children are having trouble following these rules they
will be given a verbal warning. They will then proceed to
yellow-light if behavior continues. Yellow-light is simply a
warning, a reminder to the student to stop and think
before he/she acts. If behavior continues still, a redlight will be given. Upon red-light you will be called by
either teacher to discuss behavior.
This system continues throughout the day…in specials,
lunch, recess and in the hallways.

sentence, details and a closing sentence. We begin to
introduce the idea of writer voice and stress
conventions appropriate for first graders.
Spelling:
• Spelling Tests:
• Words come from
Harcourt Reading Series
• Words introduced and
built on Mondays
• Daily 5 allows for practice
during the week
• Test on Fridays
• Bonus Words: Optional
words for those ready for
the challenge.
• Spelling Sentence: Will
use spelling words in a silly
sentence. Students will
be graded on spelling as
well as punctuation.
• Kid-friendly Spelling:
• Used for all independent
writing
• Encourage word wall words
and past spelling words to
be spelled correctly!
• We encourage students to
stretch the words to
listen for each sound when
writing words they don’t
know how to spell.
• During the editing process
we will help students spell
words correctly for final
copy papers.
