The verb ' To be' has a special importance in
English. He/she belongs together to the
Spanish verbs to be and to be. Depending on
the sense of the sentence will deduce of which
is of both.
EXAMPLE:
I am English / Soy inglés
I am in England / Estoy en Inglaterra
It is good to express the age, in which case
he/she translates himself for ' HAVE':
Mary is 20 years old / Maria tiene 20 años
I am 21 / Yo tengo 21 años
How old are you? / ¿Cuántos años tienes?
To express the sensations the verb it is also
used ' to be' and it is equal to the ' Spanish
HAVE'.
Are you hungry? / ¿Tienes hambre?
He is thirsty / Tiene sed
Also to talk about the atmospheric time. In this
case it is translated for ' DO'
It's windy / Hace viento
It's very cold / Hace mucho frío
