Verbos Reflexivos.
• The reflexive construction consists in Spanish of
a reflexive pronoun and a verb.
acostarse
ponerse
vestirse
• In this construction the subject is both the
performer and the receiver of the action
expressed by the verb.
Isabel se acuesta
Yo me pongo
Él se viste
• Any verb that can act upon the subject can be
made reflexive in Spanish with the aid of a
reflexive pronoun. (The meaning may be
different)
• Reflexive pronouns have the same form as
direct and indirect object pronouns, except in the
third person singular and plural.
me
te
se
nos
os
se
• As with the object pronouns, reflexive pronouns
are placed immediately before the conjugated
verb.
yo me lavo
tú te bañas
él se afeita
• In progressive constructions or with the
infinitive, they are either attached to the
present participle or the infinitive, or placed
in front of the conjugated verb.
Ella está bañándose.
Tú vas a peinarte.
Ella se está bañando.
Tú te vas a peinar.
• When talking about parts of the body and
articles of clothing. Spanish uses the
definite article rather than the possessive
adjective.
Me lavo las manos.
I wash my hands
Me pongo los pantalones. I put on my pants.
Reciprocal Reflexives
• The plural reflexive pronouns nos, os, se,
may be used with certain verbs to express
reciprocal actions. (The English equivalent
for each other or one another.)
Nos queremos mucho.
We love each other a lot.
