About Me
Brian Kelly:
• UK Web Focus – post funded by JISC and
MLA to advise UK HE / FE and cultural
heritage sectors on best Web practices
• Based at UKOLN, University of Bath
• Helped set up Web service in Leeds
University in Jan 1993 - first in UK(?) and
in first 50 registered at CERN)
• Web evangelist from 1993 (against Gopher
orthodoxy!)
• Still evangelising today!

About The Event
This workshop:
• Second joint UICISA/UKOLN event (following Beyond
Email - Strategies For Collaborative Working In The 21st
Century workshop in Leeds, Nov 2004)
• CETIS are additional co-organiser
The event:
• Opportunity to hear about/use innovative new applications
& development methodologies (e.g. SOA & Web 2.0)
• Discuss deployment challenges (deploying the above)
Wikipedia
The "Disruptive Technologies" title:
• "new technological innovation ... that .. overturns the
existing dominant technology in the market .."
• Disruption to an organisation's road map (cf Web in 1994)
• A catchy title to appeal to potential delegates
