DCS SOFTWARE VERSIONS
PVSS-II version 3.6
PVSS-II version to be used is 3.6
Discussed during commissioning meetings with
each detector
All projects installed in CR3 shall be ported to
this version
New PVSS-II features
Please refer to Oliver’s presentation for
details:
http://indico.cern.ch/conferenceDisplay.py?confId=7249
Why upgrade at all?
Slight differences between 3.1 and 3.6
Different archive DB schema
Changes in communication protocol between
managers
Patches needed for a distributed system consisting of a
3.1 and 3.6 mixture (possible performance and stability
issues)
New features (like Qt) affect the backwards
software compatibility (for example ALICE UI)
New FW developments will carried out only for
PVSS-II v. 3.6
Why to upgrade now?
Systems being installed in CR3
Homogenous environment needed for integration
Possible issues shall be identified and solved
now
No manpower for parallel development of
tools compatible with both the 3.1 and 3.6
