Jill Breslin ,by CTAP 295 Teaching with Technology FINAL PRESENTATION Self Defense My name is Kelly Daugherty and I am a high school teacher at Independence High School in San Jose. My web site is http://da My e-mail is [email protected] This project will allow high school students to go on my web page and visualize basic self defense moves. It can be used when a student is absent from class or as a technology teaching tool. Expectations •Putting a lesson on a web site •Create a lesson to be used in the classroom •Create a power point that can be used as a test •Students who are absent will be able to make up work Outcomes •Graphing with excel •Web page creation in Netscape Composer •Linking pages and projects •Power point •Excel •Downloading and uploading techniques Successes •Completed project! •Students engaged •Students who were absent made up the test without the lab being set up again •Another style of teaching was implemented •Meets more than one standard Shortcomings •There were not enough computers for the students •The classroom I teach in does not have an internet connection Student Data 3.5 3 2.5 Grades 2 1.5 1 0.5 0 Pre-test Post test Final Project The students improved in their Student post tests and the average of their Student Student Student Student 1 5 9 17 projects. There were a few students that did13 not improve. These students either did not complete Students the assignments or their attendance was poor. Revisions After reviewing the data, I noticed that the rubric I had made for the project needed revision. The students did not do as well as expected on the project. I revised the rubric. I also changed some text in the web site and revised the pre/post test. Summary This project helped me see how using technology could enhance the learning of even young children. There are many different types of technology, and finding the right one for your age student is not always easy. The Internet may NOT be the best technology for your age student and you need to look at all types. You need to know your audience. Taking a standard and creating a lesson around it is a skill that more people need to explore. I hope to be able to use the lessons that others have created in this project as time progresses. I have learned a lot from this project. I hope to use some of the skills I have learned to educate others.
