• Events – game watch, Homecoming
• Pride - Way to give back
• Tradition
• Unity
• Spirit
• Fundraising – always asking for $$
2. What aspect of the university do you most connect
with? What makes you want to advocate for UA?
• How does the UA Alumni Association help you do that?
• Top connections to UA are Colleges and Athletics, science
and research and the Alumni Association. There is also a
strong emotional connection from relationships.
• Wanting to give back is the strongest reason for
advocating for UA, as well as to enhance UA’s reputation
and increase funding.
• UAAA helps board members by providing information
from multiple sources, networking and annual leadership
conference.
3. What type of alumni network appeals to you? If you were to
start an organization that represented the UA in your region, what
would be its primary purpose?
• There is interest in professional networks (7)
• Social focus and outreach to young alumni (7)
• Network for fundraising for scholarships (5)
• Advocacy (2)
• Anything beside sports
4. What information [that you’ve received today/that we can
provide] is most helpful as you advocate for UA locally in
your community?
•University communications needs to improve - more info
on finances, students and what’s new
•Need better local demographics on alums for chapter
engagement, plus provide better contact info.
•All presentations well received, but best in show was UA
Online (“Vin Del Casino was awesome”) Tied for second
were “A Peak Under the Hood..” and “Bio5 Institute: From
Research to Impact.”
5. What tools are most helpful to you as you advocate for the
UA locally in your community?
•Social Media most important, but don’t forget that not
everyone uses it. Some still want to read it in a direct mail
piece. (10)
•Talking points would be helpful (9)
•Data mining (2)
•Prepare marketing materials – stickers, tabletop A’s, have it
ready to go.
•Event request form poor, provide template for websites
•More info in Arizona Magazine
•Use chapters more to get out info
•Win Rose Bowl (2)
6. Are their barriers to advocacy that we could help you
overcome?
•Need a handbook – packaged messaging (7)
•Easy reference points(3)
•Education/training (2)
•Silos and lack of synergy with colleges and student affairs, ie
coordinated messaging (3)
•Advocacy plan for those who can’t go to the legislature or
are out of state
•Data base of shared info and data mining
•Clear direction on what alumni need to do
7. What is the greatest unmet need of the Alumni
Association?
• Is there different or additional information that we
could provide?
• Fundraising, sponsorships and emphasis on impact (8)
• More connectivity with other alumni, data would be a
good start, CRM, IT upgrades (7)
• Greater interaction between other chapter and clubs (5)
• Building membership and retaining members (5)
• Breaking down silos, increase presence of UAAA on
campus. (4)
8. What are three practical, specific steps that you can and
will take back home to be an ambassador and advocate for
UA?
•Take knowledge back and share in our community (10)
•Get involved with #CatsGiveBack and AdvoCats (8)
•Host a party in my city and involve the chapter in visits (5)
•Help increase membership (5)
•Elevator speech to promote the UA (4)
