Geography
Indonesia is North West in location compared to Australia.
17,508 islands make up Indonesia, and 6,000 of them are
inhabited. The islands names are Java, Bali, Sulawesi,
Sumatra, Papua, Papua Barat, Nusa Tenggara, Kalimantan
and Maluku. Some of the main cities are Jakarta, Bandung
& Bekasi. Jakarta is the capital city of Indonesia, it is located
in Java. The population is 242,325,638. The highest
mountain in Indonesia is Puncak Jaya. The largest lake in
Indonesia is Lake Toba.
Economy
The currency of Indonesia is Rupiah. Their top 10 main
export products are: shrimps, coffee, CPO, cacao, rubber &
rubber products, textile & garment, footwear, electronics,
motorcycle components & furniture.
Environment
There are 381 mammal species, 173 of which are endemic to
Indonesia, 771 bird species, 146 of which are endemic to
Indonesia, 449 reptile and amphibian species, 249 of which
are endemic, and there are over 1000 species of fish, and
there were 200 new species found in the past 10 years.
Environment
There are around 28,000 kinds of flowers in Indonesia, 2500
of them are consisting of orchids, 6000 traditional medicine
plants, 1The wildlife in Indonesia has a very high level of
biodiversity. Indonesia is divided in to two ecological pieces.
The western Indonesia is has a lot of Asian fauna (wildlife)
and the eastern Indonesia is more Australasia. 22 species of
bamboo and over 350 species of ratan.
Culture
The largest ethnic group in Indonesia is the Javanese, taking
up 41% of the total population. The Sudanese, Madurese and
Malay are the next largest ethnic groups of Indonesia. Some
of the typical foods of Indonesia are Ayam Kalasan, Alam
Taliwang, Bakwan Malang, Mie Bakso, Betutu, Bubur Ayam,
Cakalang Fufu and Cap Cai.
Culture
Two of the legends in Indonesia are the story of the Mouse
Deer (a mouse sized dear, but with a bigger body and smaller
head) & the legend of Hikayat Hang Tuah. There are over
250 languages spoken in Indonesia, the main one is
Indonesian (Bahasa Indonesia)
History & Religion
The two countries that ruled over Indonesia were the
Netherlands (the Dutch) and Japan (the Japanese) From
1945- 1948 Indonesia gained its independence; as the Dutch
and Japanese left Indonesia.
The four main religions of Indonesia are Islam, Christianity,
Hinduism and Roman Catholicism.
