GEOGRAPHY
• Georgia is in the western & northern
hemispheres.
• GA is north of the equator & west of
the prime meridian.
• The Fall Line separates the Piedmont
region from the Coastal Plain Region.
It is the prehistoric coastline.

• Each man was to defend the new
colony against all enemies.
• Land could not e sold.
• Colonists were to cultivate the land
and set aside a portion to grow
mulberry trees (for silk production).
• Obey regulations set by the trustees.

SETTLEMENT
• Charity- a haven for the “worthy poor”.
• Economics- provide raw materials to
England (MERCANTILISM)
• Defense- provide a “buffer” for colonists
in the Carolina colony against the Spanish
in Florida (& French to the west, also some
Native Americans).

WHO COULDN’T COME?
• Catholics – afraid they would sympathize
with Spanish Catholics in Florida.
• Blacks- no slavery allowed.
• Liquor Dealers – avoid problems associated
with alcoholism.
• Lawyers – wanted colonists to settle
differences out of court.

the use of "Join or Die"
in 1754 and 1765 is that
Franklin had designed it
to unite the colonies for
'management of Indian
relations' and defense
against France, but in
1765 American colonists
used it to urge colonial
unity against the British
