GEOGRAPHY
Cyprus is an island in the eastern Mediterranean
Sea. It is an independent republic since 1959. The
capital city is Nicosia. The languages are: greek,
turkish and english. There isn’t one official religion,
because the Greeks population are OrthodoxChristian, while the Turks are Muslims.

HISTORY
Cyprus has been inhabited by the Neolithic age.
After civilizations developed during the Copper Age
and Bronze Age. Important for the history of
Cyprus is Greek arrival of the twelth and eleventh
centurys. Greek colonization introduced the
language, the art and Greek traditions esestenti
today. Cyprus became a Christian later with the
arrival of the Romans. In the Roman empire were
built the most beautiful churches. With the
opening of the Suez Canal Cyprus assumed great
importance and became a British colony. It will be
independence only in 1960. in 1974 the Turkish
troops invaded the north of the island, the island is
still separate. Cyprus since 2004 is part of the 'EU.

problems. There are qualified teachers for example
speech therapists or physiotherapist, who help this
people all the days. The age of patients are
between 18 to 52. this institution is important
because it helps to seek employment for people
with disabilities

old. doctors help people who have diseases of the
central nervous system, arthritis, mobility two
movements to aging. the center has innovative
tools. It is the most important because Cyprus has
advanced equipment.

Museum

The museum of Cyprus in Nicosia is the
largest and the largest museum in the
island. Its was built from 1905 to 1925
and was dedicated to Queen Victoria as
Cyprus was a British colony. the purpose
of the museum was to create a space to
gather all the finds from the Neolithic
period to the Byzantine period . Important
in the museum are objects in ceramics,
sculptures, jewelry, coins and the statue of
Aphrodite (the symbol of the island, in
marble).

Plato Institute, established in 1972, is situated in the
very centre of Limassol. The Institute is located near
the beach, old town, Limassol castle. The school is very
well equipped, has 8 classrooms, a language laboratory,
computer room, conference room.

The Medieval
Museum of Cyprus
Lemesos Castle is the most famous tourist attraction of
Limassol. It is located a few metres from the old port: is
its medieval castle, became famous for the marriage
between Richard the Lionheart & Berengaria of
Navarre. The original castle was built in the 12th
century as a fortress by the Byzantines and the current
is not that a new version rebuilt by the French in the

The kourion is one of the most important

archaeological sites of Cyprus Kourion, one of the
most spectacular archaeological sites on the
island, was an important city-state in ancient
times. Ongoing excavations reveal new and
magnificent treasures. Note in particular for its
magnificent Greek-Roman Theatre, Kourion
boasts, among its treasures, some villas with
exquisite mosaic floors and an early Christian
basilica. Originally built in the second
century BC .
Paphos
Paphos is one of the most popular tourist resorts of the island It has origins in the past, in this place
you can found a mix of history and legend. For example in Paphos was born Aphrodite. In 1980
Paphos has been included in the list of world heritage by the UNESCO.

The first thing you'll notice are the beautiful Roman
or Byzantine mosaics. The first thing you notice are
the Roman and Byzantine mosaics. Some of the best
compositions of mosaics can be found in the Villa of
Theseus and the house of Dionysus. Another nearby
attraction is the tomb of the Kings, carved in the fourth
century 4 th BC.

The Akrotiri Environmental Education and
Information Centre is situated within Akrotiri
Village and has been operating since 2004. the
Centre receives organised school visits for
environmental education, as well as
individuals, families and other groups for
environmental information. Akrotiri Peninsula
presents significat environmental importance
and is characterised by diversity at all levels:
habitats, geology, history, flora-fauna.
