Abraham Lincoln
• President of the United
States during the Civil
War.
• His election was one of
the reasons the southern
states seceded.
• He signed the
Emancipation
Proclamation that freed
all southern slaves.
Jefferson Davis
• President of the
Confederate States of
America.
• Was found guilty of
treason at the end of the
war, and spent two years
in prison.
• Treason: Trying to over
throw the government.

Ulysses Grant
• Leader of the Union Army.
• General Lee surrendered
to him at the Appomattox
Court House in 1865 to
end the Civil War.
• After the Civil War, he was
elected the 18th President
of the United States.
Robert E. Lee
• Leader of the Confederate
Army.
• Lincoln offered him the position
of head of the Union Army, but
he said no.
• He said no because he didn’t
want to fight his friends and
family.
• Surrendered to Ulysses Grant
at the Appomattox Court
House in 1865.

• Was a leader at the first
Battle of Bull Run.
• Got his nickname Stonewall

one of his own soldiers.
