during the Civil War
• More people died in
this war than any
other war in American
history
• The war started over
slavery
The Union and Confederate Armies

• Union wore dark blue
jackets, light blue
pants, regular blue
caps, and black
shoes.
• Confederates wore
long gray shirts, light
blue pants, and gray
jackets
The Battle of Bull Run
• The first battle of Bull Run took place on
July 21, 1861
• The Union was lead by General Irvin
McDowell
• The Confederates were lead by Thomas J.
Jackson
• Thomas J. Jackson’s nickname was
“Stonewall”.
The Battle of Gettysburg
• The Union was lead by General George
Grant who lead them to high ground near
Gettysburg
• The Confederates were lead by Robert E.
Lee
• The Union Army won the battle of
Gettysburg and their first battle

used the telegraph

pretty good

• Hard Track is a type
of biscuit made from
flour and water

• The South made
coffee
• They made coffee out
of a root called
chicory and boiled it
• coffee was their
favorite hot drink
Conditions on the Home Front
• there was a draft that all people were
upset about
• it affected the wives they did not know if
there husbands would come back alive
• the South was upset about the draft
• most all wars were settled in the South

• The Union won
• the south did not all die genr. grant was so
