Propaganda is …
An organized attempt to influence the
decisions of large audiences
Mostly applied to advertisements,
speeches, and editorials
Sometimes used to advance good causes
such as recycling and health campaigns
May also be used to advance the biased
opinion of an author
Common Techniques
Bandwagon: urges you to do or believe
something because everyone else does
Testimonial: uses a famous person to testify that
he or she supports an issue or uses a product
Snob Appeal: suggests that the use of a product
allows you to be superior to others
Stereotyping: the use of stereotypes to refer to
members of a group as being the same
Name-calling: the use of negative labels to sway
public opinion
