The personal essay genrally reveals a great deal about
the writer’s personality and tastes. Its tone is often
conversational, sometimes humorous. In a personal
essay the focus is the writer’s feelings and response to
an experience.
Formal Essay
The formal essay is usually serious, objective, and
impersonal in tone. Its purpose is to inform readers
about a topic or to persuade them to accept the writer’s
views.

Newspapers may contain feature articles that aim to
entertain as well as inform. Newspapers often contain
editorials that support a position for or against an
issue. Headlines at the top of each article usually
indicate the topic.

articles that revolve around current events.

A record of events, transactions, or observations kept
daily or at frequent intervals : journal; especially : a
