Even if the majority of ordinary Germans
had disapproved of Kristallnacht there was
little they could have done to prevent it
Agree:
Hard to tell how many people
disapproved as the Nazis had
systematically put down the
opposing voice
Police State was so successful,
people passively went along to
prevent being in trouble
Hateful propaganda,
censorship and Terror were
key components of an
oppressed people that had
little chance of standing up to
the SA element of the Nazis
Disagree:
Although opposition did exist
it was not unified, its leaders
were locked up and
propaganda had made them
into enemies
Youth groups opposed the
regime more in war time and
people did not really react
before
The Church tried to speak out
against the Jewish question
and euthanasia but its leaders
were heavily censured
Third Reich held authority,
army support and controlled
the press – only in occupied
territories was opposition
more likely.
