Crossing the Red Sea
( Some Lessons from God’s Perspective )
1. It was an act of God’s mighty, miraculous,
marvelous power (Ex. 14:31; Num. 33:8;
Deut. 11:1-4; Psa. 66:5-6; 74:12-13; 78:12-13)
Exodus 14:31
And Israel saw the great work
which Jehovah did upon the
Egyptians, and the people
feared Jehovah: and they
believed in Jehovah, and in his
servant Moses.
Deuteronomy 11:2-4
2 And
know ye this day: for I speak not with your
children that have not known, and that have not
seen the chastisement of Jehovah your God, his
greatness, his mighty hand, and his
outstretched arm,
3 and his signs, and his works, which he did in the
midst of Egypt unto Pharaoh the king of Egypt,
and unto all his land;
4 and what he did unto the army of Egypt, unto
their horses, and to their chariots; how he made
the water of the Red Sea to overflow them as
they pursued after you, and how Jehovah hath
destroyed them unto this day.
Psalm 66:5-6
Come, and see the works of
God; He is terrible in his
doing toward the children of
men. He turned the sea into
dry land; They went through
the river on foot: There did we
rejoice in him.
Psalm 74:12-13
Yet God is my King of old,
Working salvation in the midst
of the earth. Thou didst divide
the sea by thy strength: Thou
brakest the heads of the seamonsters in the waters.
Psalm 78:12-13
Marvellous things did he in
the sight of their fathers, In the
land of Egypt, in the field of
Zoan. He clave the sea, and
caused them to pass through;
And he made the waters to
stand as a heap.

1. It was an act of God’s mighty, miraculous,
marvelous power (Ex. 14:31; Num. 33:8;
Deut. 11:1-4; Psa. 66:5-6; 74:12-13; 78:12-13)
2. It was an act of God’s salvation (Ex. 14:13, 30;
Isa. 51:10, 15)
Exodus 14:13
And Moses said unto the
people, Fear ye not, stand still,
and see the salvation of
Jehovah, which he will work
for you to-day: for the
Egyptians whom ye have seen
to-day, ye shall see them again
no more for ever.
Exodus 14:30
Thus Jehovah saved Israel
that day out of the hand of the
Egyptians; and Israel saw the
Egyptians dead upon the seashore.
Isaiah 51:10, 15
Is it not thou that driedst up the
sea, the waters of the great deep;
that madest the depths of the sea a
way for the redeemed to pass
over? … For I am Jehovah thy
God, who stirreth up the sea, so
that the waves thereof roar:
Jehovah of hosts is his name.

( Some Lessons from God’s Perspective )
1. It was an act of God’s mighty, miraculous,
marvelous power (Ex. 14:31; Num. 33:8;
Deut. 11:1-4; Psa. 66:5-6; 74:12-13; 78:12-13)
2. It was an act of God’s salvation (Ex. 14:13, 3031; Isa. 51:10, 15)
3. It was an act of God’s mercy (Josh. 24:6-7;
Neh. 9:9-11; Zech. 10:10-12)
Joshua 24:6-7
And I brought your fathers out of Egypt:
and ye came unto the sea; and the
Egyptians pursued after your fathers with
chariots and with horsemen unto the Red
Sea. And when they cried out unto
Jehovah, he put darkness between you
and the Egyptians, and brought the sea
upon them, and covered them; and your
eyes saw what I did in Egypt: and ye
dwelt in the wilderness many days.
Nehemiah 9:9-11
And thou sawest the affliction of our
fathers in Egypt, and heardest their cry by
the Red Sea, and showedst signs and
wonders upon Pharaoh, and on all his
servants, and on all the people of his land;
for thou knewest that they dealt proudly
against them, and didst get thee a name, as
it is this day. And thou didst divide the sea
before them, so that they went through the
midst of the sea on the dry land; and their
pursuers thou didst cast into the depths, as a
stone into the mighty waters.
Zechariah 10:10-12
I will bring them again also out of the land of
Egypt, and gather them out of Assyria; and I
will bring them into the land of Gilead and
Lebanon; and place shall not be found for
them. And he will pass through the sea of
affliction, and will smite the waves in the
sea, and all the depths of the Nile shall dry
up; and the pride of Assyria shall be brought
down, and the sceptre of Egypt shall depart.
And I will strengthen them in Jehovah; and
they shall walk up and down in his name,
saith Jehovah.

4. It was an act of God’s loving-kindness
(Psa. 136:10-15; Isa. 63:7-14)
Psalm 136:10-15
10 To
him that smote Egypt in their first-born; For
his lovingkindness endureth for ever; 11 And
brought out Israel from among them; For his
lovingkindness endureth for ever; 12 With a
strong hand, and with an outstretched arm; For
his lovingkindness endureth for ever: 13 To him
that divided the Red Sea in sunder; For his
lovingkindness endureth for ever;
14 And made Israel to pass through the midst of it;
For his lovingkindness endureth for ever; 15 But
overthrew Pharaoh and his host in the Red Sea;
For his lovingkindness endureth for ever:
Isaiah 63:7, 12
I will make mention of the lovingkindnesses
of Jehovah, and the praises of Jehovah,
according to all that Jehovah hath bestowed
on us, and the great goodness toward the
house of Israel, which he hath bestowed on
them according to his mercies, and
according to the multitude of his
lovingkindnesses ... that caused his
glorious arm to go at the right hand of
Moses? that divided the waters before
them, to make himself an everlasting
name?

( Some Lessons from God’s Perspective )
4. It was an act of God’s loving-kindness
(Isa. 63:7-14)
5. It was an act of God that made known his
greatness to others (Josh. 2:10; 4:19-24)
Joshua 2:10
For we have heard how Jehovah
dried up the water of the Red
Sea before you, when ye came out
of Egypt; and what ye did unto the
two kings of the Amorites, that
were beyond the Jordan, unto
Sihon and to Og, whom ye utterly
destroyed.
Joshua 4:23-24
For Jehovah your God dried up the
waters of the Jordan from before you,
until ye were passed over, as Jehovah
your God did to the Red Sea, which he
dried up from before us, until we were
passed over; that all the peoples of the
earth may know the hand of Jehovah,
that it is mighty; that ye may fear
Jehovah your God for ever.
Crossing the Red Sea
( Some Lessons from Israel’s Perspective )
1. They were rebellious at first (Psa. 106:6-12, 22)
Psalm 106:7
Our fathers understood not thy
wonders in Egypt; They
remembered not the multitude
of thy loving-kindnesses, but
were rebellious at the sea,
even at the Red Sea.
Crossing the Red Sea
( Some Lessons from Israel’s Perspective )
1. They were rebellious at first (Psa. 106:6-12, 22)
2. Crossing was an act of obedient faith for
everyone (Heb. 11:29)
Hebrews 11:29
By faith they passed through
the Red sea as by dry land:
which the Egyptians assaying
to do were swallowed up.

2. Crossing was an act of faith for everyone
(Heb. 11:29)
3. Many desired in their hearts to cross back over
(Acts 7:36, 39; see Exodus 16:3; 17:3;
Num. 14:3-4)
Acts 7:36, 39
This man led them forth, having
wrought wonders and signs in
Egypt, and in the Red Sea, and in
the wilderness forty years … of
whom our fathers would not be
obedient, but thrust him from them,
and turned back in their hearts
unto Egypt.

1 Corinthians 10:1-5
For I would not, brethren, have you ignorant,
that our fathers were all under the cloud, and
all passed through the sea; and were all
baptized unto Moses in the cloud and in the
sea; and did all eat the same spiritual food;
and did all drink the same spiritual drink: for
they drank of a spiritual rock that followed
them: and the rock was Christ. Howbeit with
most of them God was not well pleased: for
they were overthrown in the wilderness.
