THE SUN
THE SUN IS IN THE CENTER OF OUR SOLAR SYSTEM.
THE SUN IS ONE BIG FIERY STAR THAT IS 10,000˚F (6,000˚C)
ON THE SURFACE, AND 27,000,000˚F (15,000,000˚C) IN THE
CORE.
MERCURY AND VENUS
MERCURY AND VENUS ARE THE CLOSEST PLANETS TO THE SUN.
MERCURY AND VENUS HAVE NO ATMOSPHERE. THE
TEMPERATURE OF THESE PLANETS ARE 850˚F-335˚F
(430˚C-170˚C.)
THE EARTH AND MOON
THE EARTH IS THE THIRD PLANET FROM THE SUN. EARTH IS THE
ONLY PLANET WITH LIFE ON IT IN THIS GALAXY. PEOPLE THINK
THAT THE MOON BROKE OFF FROM THE EARTH FROM SOME
BULGE IN THE EQUATER. OTHER PEOPLE THINK THAT THE
MOON WAS FORMED ELSWHERE IN THE SOLAR SYSTEM AND
THEN CAPTURED IN THE EARTHS GRAVITATIONAL PULL.
MARS
MARS IS THE LAST PLANET IN THE INNER ROCKY GROUP. MARS
HAS INTERESTED SCIENTISTS FOR MANY YEARS. SCIENTISTS
HAVE BEEN SENDING MARS ROVERS, AND SATELITES TO MARS
FOR YEARS.
JUPITER
JUPITER IS THE FIRST PLANET OF THE GAS GIANTS. JUPITER IS A
PLANET FILLED WITH DEADLY GASES. JUPITER HAS A STORM
CALLED THE RED SPOT. ALSO JUPITER HAS A RING OF ROCKS
AND DEBRIS FROM OTHER PLANETS.
SATURN
SATURN SPINS VERY QUICKLY AND A DAY ON SATURN IS 10
HOURS AND 39 MINUTES. SATURN SPINS 1000 MILES PER
HOUR.
URANUS AND NEPTUNE
URANUS AND NEPTUNE ARE BOTH GAS GIANTS, AND THE
SEVENTH AND EIGHTH PLANETS FROM THE SUN. URANUS WAS
DISCOVERED IN 1781 BY WILLIAM HERSHEL. NEPTUNE WAS
DISCOVERED IN 1846.
PLUTO
PLUTO IS THE FARTHEST PLANET FROM THE SUN, PLUTO IS
EXACTLEY 3.75 BILLION MILES AWAY FROM THE SUN. PLUTO
GOES INTO NEPTUNES ORBIT FOR 20 YEARS. PLUTO IS NOT A
PLANET MOST PEOPLE THINK PLUTO IS A BALL OF DEBRIS OR
A CHUNK OF A PLANET THAT FLOATED OFF.
