The Cell
 The two cells that we will be comparing are
– The plant cell
– The animal cell
The Cell
The plant cell
The Plant Cell
 Parts of a Plant Cell
 Nucleus - the brains of the cell; carries the codes
that control all cell activities
 ER (endoplasmic reticulum) – a system of tubes
where many cell substances are made
 Chromosomes – carry the code material (DNA) that
directs cell activity
 Cell Membrane – controls the movement of
materials in and out of the cell
 Nuclear Membrane – controls the movement of
materials in and out of the nucleus
The Cell
 Parts of the Plant Cell
 Golgi Apparatus – assemble, release, and store some
chemicals
 Ribosomes – manufacture of proteins
 Cytoplasm – substance that holds all other parts in
suspension
 Mitochondria – Release energy for food
 Lyosomes – gobble up waste materials (very rare in
plant cells)
The Cell
 Parts of the Plant Cell
 Vacuole – Stores water and waste material
 Cell Wall – gives shape an support to the cells; made
from cellulose
 Chloroplast – contain chlorophyll which traps
sunlight to help with making food
