The Parts of A
Cell
Standard 7.1a Students know cells function
similarly in all living organisms.
Cell Membrane
• Every cell has a flexible covering that
surrounds it called the cell membrane.
• The membrane is semi-permeable. This means
some substances are allowed into the cell and
some substances CANNOT leave or enter the
cell.
Cell Wall
• Some cells, like plants and fungi have a rigid
cell wall.
• Cell walls provide shape, support, and
protection for the cell.
• Animal cells DO NOT have cell walls.
Cytoplasm
• Inside every cell is a thick fluid made mostly of
water, called the cytoplasm.
What are Organelles?
• Inside cells there are structures with specific
jobs called organelles.
• Some single celled organisms, like bacteria,
DO NOT have organelles
Nucleus
Nucleolus
Ribosomes
Control center- stores
DNA
Inside Nucleus- makes
amino acids
Proteins made here
Endoplasmic
Protein & Lipid
Reticulum (ER) production
Mitochondrion Powerhouse of cellmake energy
Chloroplast PLANTS ONLY-
Golgi
Apparatus
Vesicles
Vacuoles
Use light to make energy
Processing Factorymakes sorts and ships molecules
Made in the Golgi“bubbles” for transport
“bubbles” for storage
