• Ministerial department supported by 8 agencies and public
bodies.
• Works to make sure the UK has secure, clean, affordable
energy supplies and promote international action to mitigate
climate change.

Working at DECC?
• Energy Development IT Unit (EDU-IT)
• Responsible for regulating the exploration and extraction of
oil and gas in the UK and the North Sea.
• EDU-IT developed and maintain the UK Oil Portal an E-business system regulating the UK Oil and Gas industry.
The Placement
• Working as a Database Programmer for the EDU-IT
department at DECC.
• Systems are used by oil and gas companies operating in the
UK and the North Sea.
• Roles include maintaining and developing enhancements for
the numerous systems used as part of the UK Oil Portal.
• Opportunity to provide website cover for DECC’s section on
GOV.UK and internal web pages.

• FOXopen is an open-source e-business toolkit that allows
rapid development and deployment of workflow-based web
systems.
• Forms Oriented XML (FOX) is a framework developed by
DECC. It is used by thousands of people in government and
commercial applications.
