Red Marrow – produces white blood cells, red
blood cells, and platelets
Yellow Marrow – made of fat that replaces red
marrow as person ages
Extension (RELAX)

angle of the joint
Flexion
(CONTRACT)

the angle of a bone joint
Bones
Organs that contain two types of tissue:

Spongy Bone – the interior region of the bone
that contains many holes
Periosteum
Outside covering of bone
Periosteum
Cartilage
Stiff, flexible tissue that is part of the skeletal
system.
Ligaments
Connective tissue that holds bones together at
many joints
Tendons
Connective tissue that attaches skeletal muscle to
bone
Muscles
There are 3 types of muscles, that help your body with
movement in different ways.
Skeletal Muscle – works with the skeletal system
and helps your move
Cardiac Muscle – found only in the heart, continually contracts and relaxes to
move blood throughout your body
Smooth Muscle – found in organs such as the stomach, bladder,
and blood vessels; moves materials through your body
Voluntary
Muscles that you can consciously control
Involuntary
Muscles you cannot consciously control.
